Summer Slaughter… ftw…

Posted on March 21st, 2009 by hamstar

Summer Slaughter was last night and it was fucking awesome. Nothing short of amazing as bogans flooded the Transmission room and the raw, unbridled power of brutal death metal pierced ear drums.

Got me a Necrophagist Tshirt and a Fetus hoodie. They aren’t that great, apparently they all sold out in Oz and they didn’t bring enough for us (thanks guys). But I’m happy to support them since I haven’t bought any of their albums and buying merchandise doesn’t give any cash to the record companies.

There were six bands, Ulcerate was first, they were OK (3 of them are 8 ft Sativa dudes so I’m told). Then Dawn of Azazel, with the Cop lead singer who they tried to kick off the force. They played real well this time. Got some hair thrashing to them.

Then the ones I’d never heard before, Faceless and Aborted played. They were actually pretty good! Aborted played for ages, and started a wall of death (Which if you didn’t know is where the crowd splits in two and runs at each other at the next breakdown)! I thought they were banned cos people die in them but my brother grabbed me and yelled “Mmmf gmph Mfft!!!” and ran off to the right of me. I was like “what the fuck did he say?” and then realised I was almost the only person left in the middle… fuck! The guitars dropped and everyone ran and smashed into each other people went flying, Mope lost his shoe then found it again. No one died. Was pretty cool, first one I’ve been in.

Next time I think I’ll pay more attention and instead stand in the middle with my devil horns outstretched and then tuck up just before each side meets me in the middle. That would be cool to do.

Shelley turned up before Dying Fetus came on. Gave me a chance to get out of the stifling heat down there to go meet her. I didn’t know but The bassist guy also does vocals. The guitaring was awesome, the bassist goes from like the top frets to the bottom frets then back again so quick it’s hard to follow, same with the lead guitar. His guitar was for sale that night too, $2000. It was a black Dimebag style one, can’t remember if it was ESP or LTD though… Fucking amazing. First song they played was… I can’t remember… but mope ran into the mosh pit so I followed him leaving Shelley (who wasn’t feeling so extreme that night: tsk tsk Shelley) with her mate from work Will, who plays in Skulldom. Hopefully going to see them next month.

Mosh pit was pretty fucking nuts, got kicked in the face by the Dawn of Azazel lead singer as he was crowd surfing which was pretty funny cos I just managed to miss his foot in the Amon Amarth mosh pit lol. It wasn’t as packed as Children of Bodom so there was more room to move around which meant cunts were getting taken OUT lol cos you could get a run up in the pit. Two dudes even dancing Ballroom styles in there smashing around and getting taken down, classic shit, was crackup.

I got out of there to get a drink, I was pretty much fucked by the end of Aborted but this was like the first and last time Dying Fetus will ever come here. Went back in for Grotesque Impalement – love that song. They played Pissing in the Mainstream, Kill Your Mother/Rape your dog, Raped on the Altar, One Shot One Kill and… I don’t remember the other ones they played. I was holding for Tearing Inside the Womb, but it wasn’t to be :(

Went outside to cool down before Necrophagist. They were the shit. They took a while to come on though and in that time I kinda seized up – getting too old for this shit obviously, or perhaps not drinking enough. They jumped straight into Stabwound, and also did Advanced Corpse Tumor and Fermented Offal Discharge. Watching them play is absolutely amazing. Dudes must have cut off their hands, fused huge spiders to their wrists, lopped off 3 legs, and hooked up its nervous system straight to their brains. Thats what it looked like anyway. Fingers moving so fucking fast and with such precision. Plus one of the guitarists does vocals as well. Fucking nuts!!! The lead dude playing a white flying V was looking everywhere but his guitar.

Pure.

Fucking.

Win.

(Ow my fucking neck hurts from headbanging so hard – so worth it)

Psycroptic and Road Trip to Tauranga

Posted on November 22nd, 2008 by hamstar

Went to the Psycroptic concert on Saturday night. Was mean! Unfortunately Saturday morning I got a killer ear infection and went to the doctors. Had to pay $75 for him to tell me what I already new and get a script for some amoxycillin. Plus I still had a bit of headache and stuff from my sickness before that. So I didn’t drink or mosh to hard.

Shelley’s friend Ella is apparently into pop and stuff but she came anyway. Didn’t ask her if she liked it though. Pretty sure Shelley liked it, Nick and Brad just thought it all sounded the same, and didn’t like the growling vocals. Everyone is like that at the start though. They played Colour of Sleep and Skin Coffin and Lacertine Forest but unfortnately not my favourite song in the whole world, Cruelty Incarnate :(

Was still good though. Dawn of Azazel and Metal Tower supported them. The bassist in Metal Tower had a Warlock Bass Guitar.

Anyways, here’s some of their tracks if you haven’t heard them before:

They were out of shirts by the time we got there too which sucked. I was going to buy a hoodie for $40 but forgot… (??)

Unfortunately, I am a lazy fuck and I never got around to putting my speakers and central locking cable through, before Sunday but no one else but Nick came with me. Brad went riding, as did Shelley and Tesh. It was a mean sunny day, had a bit of a jam, got yelled at by Nicks mum for distrubing the neighbours, and left at about noon.

I love roadtrips. Grabbed some subway at Bombay. Got down there at about 3, met the dude in New World carpark in a suburb called Gate Pa (wtf?). Checked the guitar out, no wobbly neck, sweet as. Dude gave me some cash for gas which was cool of him, and we decided to go for a drive and check out the Mount (Manganui). Quite a few people on the beach. Nice girls everywhere, including one of my types (black tshirt and jeans on a hot day) lol.

There were tonnes of dicks just driving round and round in their peice of shit cars though.

Left there, Nick had a sleep in the back, while I stalked some chick in a white skyline all the way back to Papakura. Don’t remember what time we got home. Tried out the guitar, its got a mean sound but only on that amp for some reason. Sounds like crap on Nicks amp.

Then stayed up until about 4am playing Far Cry 2 (awesome game).

Children of Bodom

Posted on June 28th, 2008 by hamstar

Holy fucking shit, thats all I have to say.

That concert was fucking mean. Subtract and Dawn of Azazel wiki opened for them, pretty mean.

It was me, Joe, my brother, Nick, Shelley and Becky who went.

The lead singer of Dawn of Azazel has a massive tribal goat head (symbol of rebellion) tattoo on his chest and he is a constable in the NZ Police. They tried to kick him out of the force for being in this band just because it has satanic lyrical content and talks about killing the weak. People in this country are wooses. He also said that Children of Bodom were from Sweden, but they’re from Finland. I’ve seen him before moshing at Amon Amarth, and at Oblivion a few times.

Pretty small venue, the Transmission Room. Like 150 (??) people crammed into this tiny room. The mosh pit was crazy. And then Children of Bodom came on. The only songs I can remember them playing was Needled 24/7, Hatecrew Deathroll, and Mask of Sanity (/fav). All of which went crazy. Little circle pits opening up now and then. I’ve never been so squished in my entire life.

And poor Becky, the look on her face. I’m sure she’d never seen anything like that before. But she was still getting in there and moshing with everyone. Was a little bit embarassing when my hand was squished against her boob by a wave of people hahaha. She was cool about it tho. Afterwards when we were all sitting in BK she was like “holy fuck you’re all a bunch of freaks, never again” rofl.

And there was some guy behind us who kept chanting “Tits, out, for the boys, Tits out for the boys”, so annoying, I so wanted to turn around and punch him in the face… but he was kinda big. Jerk.

Every time a song started you’d just get pushed and thrown from one side of the pit to the other, coming across your mates every now and then. Shelley was loving it getting in there and shoving people (what she does best lol). Hardly even saw my brother, Joe was standing off to the side cos he was a bit sick from the mould in his room at home :( . So most the time it was just me and Nick, and then it occasionally Shelley and Becky would turn up.

By the end of it I thought I was going to vomit from exhaustion (and the only thing I’d had to eat was a Red Bull). Everyone was just soaked in sweat. You could even see sweat and vapour dripping down the walls, and probably off the roof too. Was siiiick. I wonder if they even had the Aircon turned on.

Then as everyone left the streets of Auckland become over run by bogans and metal heads. Everyone else is like what the fuck as these rowdy cunts cruise down the footpaths, stopping occasionally to thrash out a drunken or stoned metal riff on their air guitar. In the middle of the road.

So just had some BK and then went home. Fucking mean night.
