Welcome to the Box Office Data API

This API was made to read the-numbers.com to get the production budget and gross revenue. Depending on the profit it tells you to either buy the movie, or don't buy it (i.e. download it).

Basically lets you know if you should feel guilty for downloading a movie.

Here are the arguments:

ArgumentRequiredDescription
tyesThis is the title of the film, of course, you need this.
ynoThis is the year the film was released. Its inclusion ensures more accurate results
fnoFormat to return the data in.
Not specifying returns a nicely formatted info box.
json and xml are available
php returns a serialized array
cnoNot specified means load data from cache.
Setting this to 1 means skip the cache and load fresh data. If you are getting funny results try this.

Some movies don't have all the budget details so the profit cannot be calculated. This is also in beta so don't expect it to work all the time. There is no search results interface but I may create one in the future.

Protip: Enter the exact movie name for a more accurate result e.g. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Example: http://hamstar.co.nz/api/api_thenumbers.php?t=X-Men Origins: Wolverine&y=2009
