Another tool in the war on anti-piracy is torrext, a free torrent metadata service.

How it works is you upload a torrent to it, or provide a URL to a torrent on say mininova, and torrext will extract the data from the torrent file and save it to a page under the torrents info_hash.

The data it extracts looks to be the created date, comment, and the files in the torrent. If it was uploaded to torrext via a URL from mininova it will provide the link to the torrent file as well. Plus because the info_hash is unique to every torrent, you can add a URL for a torrent from thepiratebay, mininova and torrage and it will add the download links for each site. REDUNDANCY!

The best thing is, the site hosts no torrents, no trackers, and the database isn’t searchable.

Except by Google. Because they have the most recent torrent URLs listed on the main page the Google spider can access and index torrent data that is on torrext. So if you wanted to search for a torrent on torrext you can use google… like so:

Video files? “.avi” site:torrext.appspot.com
ISO files? “.iso” site:torrext.appspot.com
Videos of Megan Fox? “megan fox” “.avi” site:torrext.appspot.com
How bout EZTV releases? “EZTV” site:torrext.appspot.com
Liberal talk shows? (”the daily show”|”the colbert report”) site:torrext.appspot.com

Google has indexed all the files in the torrent data it finds on torrext so in a way its a bit better. However it does not show the number of seeders or leechers – but I may make a script to scrape the trackers to tell you. Watch this space.

A mate of mine needed a link extractor for his hotfile.com account so that he could drop a bunch of download page links in and get the premium links to the actual file back, all in a single page, or file. From that page or file he can load them into his download program. These are all legit links btw, no illegal shit.

Anyways I made a bot that has a form to start with where you dump your download urls. Then it goes to the hotfile site, logs in with the given user credentials, runs through each link that the bot was given, and extracts the premium download URL to the file. Then it either prints the links to the page OR it saves the links into a files.txt in the web folder and forces a download in the browser.

The manual way to do that is go to every hotfile.com download link, click on the download file button to start the download, and repeat for every download url you have. This you can throw 50 hotfile.com download links in the form, hit go and it will give you all the premium download links at once. It probably breaks the hotfile terms and services so you could put your account in jeopardy (not my fault) but I don’t use the script, I just solved a problem.

So I was watching West Coast Choppers or whatever that show is on Discovery and I noticed, there is a fuck load of whining and bitching going on between everyone on the show. They’re all fucking having a cry about something.

Reading about the stink the MPAA and RIAA are kicking up about the whole P2P bittorrent thing got me thinking. I wonder if what they are saying is actually true. Are movie makers actually being ripped off by bittorrent?

I found this website called The Numbers which has a whole lot of box office data on it.

However no API. And I wanted an API that would tell me whether to feel guilty about downloading a particular movie.

So I made this: Box Office Data API

You just have to enter the movie name and year (in the url bar – no form yet) and it will tell you (if the data is available) the production costs, the gross revenue, and the net profit the movie makers made.

Here’s an example for the movie District 9 also if you look at Titanic they made over 1.5 billion bucks profit on that piece of shit movie!

The search code isn’t very smart though so it may return some dodgey results. Still beta but still useful.

Went to Cannibal Corpse on monday night. Was pretty bad ass.

Bought an Evisceration Plague album cover shirt, with some zombies on the front, yknow, for the ladies. I wore my Dethklok shirt there and low and behold it was the exact same shirt the lead singer was wearing!!! Apparently he did a couple of voices for Metalocalypse and rumoured to be who Nathan Explosion is based on. Half way throught the show he says in a low growl “Would anyone like some coffee!?” – to which everyone started cheering but they didn’t play it Also Some drunk guy at the bar was like “WILLIAM MURDERFACE MURDERFACE MURDERFACE MURDERFACE!!” and shook my hand vigourisly lol.

They played quite a few songs that I knew the titles of, but didn’t know the actual song, but moshed anyway. Got pretty drunk, got pretty fucked, fell over once. When they played Hammer Smashed Face (second to last) the shit went crazy, everyone in the fucking mosh pit. Was awesome!!! Fucking love that song. Then they played Stripped, Raped and Beaten straight after it! Which was fucking even better!!! Great end to the concert, really good show. The singer looks like he’s got no neck though… I kept wanting to yell out “WHERE’S YOUR NECK!”

They also played other family favourites such as “Fucked With a Knife” (for the ladies), “I Cum Blood” (for the ladies), “Perverse Suffering” (…for the ladies) and “Shatter Their Bones” (for the zombies).

I’m sure you’ve heard about the gang patch ban in Wanganui

Hi Mr Laws,

I was thinking about this gang patch ban and I was wondering if you
had thought about the consequences about banning the patches in
public.

You could unintentionally create a situation like with the Crips and
Bloods in Los Angeles where the gangs are signified by coloured
clothing instead. This in turn leads to innocent members of the
public being gunned down for wearing the wrong colour.

Problem is, you can’t outlaw wearing the colour red or black. So in
effect the gang patches really signify to the public who it is they
have to stay the f**k away from, protecting the public somewhat. It
will also allow the authorities to instantly identify possible
problematic people. Really the gangs wearing patches plays right into
the authorities hand allowing them to spot people by a patch rather
than by a colour – which could lead to them keeping an eye on the
wrong people.

I am worried that if the gangs eventually start taking your patch ban
seriously you could have more problems than you started out with.
Perhaps you were trying to make sure they didn’t come into public
areas because they weren’t allowed to wear their patch there? I doubt
they will stay home just so they can wear their patch.

Unless of course you have already thought about this and have some
plan to counteract it.

EDIT: He emailed me back and basicaly what it seems like this law is for is so they can harass the gang members so much that hopefully they don’t bother coming into town. Also gang colours are banned too… on peopl with known gang affiliations. I’m not sure if I like this idea or not.

So, Brad was telling us that his mate from work went up to the bombing range the other day and got done over by the cops. Apparently they have undercover cops that look like they are people fishing but really they are watching motorbikers: noting the type of bike and gear taking photos. When Brads mate got back to the carpark to load up there was a cop waiting and gave him a ticket for no rego, no warrant, and driving on the wrong side of the road. For a fucking dirtbike.

This is regulation gone mad. The media and people against driving on the beach point to three main incidents:

1. 2004: A 4WD rolls on the beach killing 3/4 occupants
2. 2008: New years day Daisy Fernandez is killed by a 15 year old riding his bike without a light at 9:30pm. IN DARGAVILLE
3. 2008: January a fisherman Rpbert Crossey riding a quadbike, wearing no helmet, and reportedly not paying attention to his driving, collides with a dirtbike, breaking his collarbone and getting brain damage.

Those are the only 3 incidents I can find in the media where someone has been hurt or killed at a beach, by a vehicle, in the last 5 years. Only two were at Muriwai. In all cases someone was being a fuckwit (except the 4WD people may have never driven on sand before – that requires education not legislation) and now regular safe people have to suffer for other peoples fuckwitery.

This is bullshit, you can say “yeah, well, we have to have warrants because their vehicle might be un-road-worthy.” Let me tell you a few things.

1. Most people riding dirtbikes or in 4WD’s go to the bombing range which is about 30 minutes up the beach at 100kmph.
2. The chance of there being mum and dad and kids that far up the beach sunbathing is pretty close to nil. If there is they stand out like dogs bollix and you can slow down. You slow down anyway if you see any hazards, cars, people, log – its fucking COMMON SENSE!
3. These people going to the bombing range are (unless they are complete fuckwits) absolutely sure that their vehicle will not fail, because the bombing range is long way up with no cellphone reception unless you climb to the highest dune. No one wants to be bothered climbing a dune to call for help if their bike breaks let alone if they have a broken leg. And no one wants to have to salvage a vehicle if it breaks down because it is a huge hassle!

So there you go. We should keep fuckwits off the beach… We should have a fuckwitery test and you if you pass you get a licence for the beach.

These people who worry about people being killed on the beach I doubt they never even go to Muriwai! I bet more people have died from drowning on the west coast than have died from a vehicle accident. Are we going to stop people swimming there? Should we stop people swimming at all beaches incase more people die? OMG I JUST REMEMBERED THERE ARE SHARKS IN THE OCEAN!!! STOP PEOPLE SWIMMING NOW!!!

Fuck these people, spreading absolute bullshit and stopping us dirtbikers from enjoying the outdoors. No one died before you started coming to the beach so maybe YOU should fuck off? Because clearly you are a fuckwit.
