I hate Sharepoint and Microsoft can’t code for shit!
Fuck I hate Sharepoint. We use it at work. It’s supposed to be a document library and intranet portal.
Such simple things like creating a custom list are screwed!
For instance, when you want to create a column in a list, you can’t call it “Type” or “Name” because that column is already in use. I am guessing by Sharepoints table for each list. You think, if Microsoft was so “innovative” they would have called their columns something “sps_name” or “sps_type”.
Another thing that is just insanely stupid, is when creating a document library, you can’t call any of the folders in there “Forms” because “Forms” is already in the folder as a hidden item as it contains all the ASP pages that control the views for that document library. Once again, you think they could have called the folder “sps_forms” or something. Who’s going to name their folder “sps_forms”?
Looks like Sharepoint is another product that has just been bashed out without no thought whatsoever into what the customers needs are, and no ingenuity.
Fucking right on Microsoft… you fucking douchebags….

Get the sand out of your vagina; if naming conventions are your biggest complaints, plz GTFO srsly
Its just dumb and shows a lack of foresight to what the users might do with the software, and the fact that Sharepoint is primarily a document management system and InfoPath forms backend makes it even worse.
YOU FUCKING IGNORANT DOUCHEBAG SHAREPOINT IS THE GREATEST THING IN TEH WORLD
Wow, this guy posted from a Hotel in a town called Spartanburg. No wonder he’s yelling. HE’S IN SPARTA!
Sharepoint, the red headed step child of my life right now….I hate you and wish you die a slow and painful death
Properly governed deployments of SharePoint are required to make it a useable product. Granted it has a bit of a learning curve, it’s going to be pretty standard in all large companies. It’s already being described as the operating system for the enterprise (love it or hate it.)
hamstar, why all the hate for Microsoft? Are you one of those granola eating tree-fuckers who sip green tea and masturbate feverishly to your linux manual?
Ummm I don’t know what granola is, and green tea is for yuppies. Perhaps if the manual had pictures haha!
Anyways, after our Microsoft Scout IT manager deployed sharepoint he gapped it back to Microsoft and left us in the dark. Haven’t even got decent support from Microsoft, I don’t think even they know how to work the thing.
There are so many things this system is incapable of and even after emailing our MS support person, he says “Oh thats not possible”.
Its so locked down, you can’t change anything, and there is little to no community support for it, leaving you dependent on the incumbent monopoly that has no interest in helping you because they already have your $30,000 cheque and they are off faster than a con artist and don’t want to hear from you again, nor do they have an obligation.
I have yet to find an open source alternative however.
Perhaps what I’m trying to do (build a knowledge base) is not possible in sharepoint but it has a Knowledge Base component which is SHIT, and a wiki which I chose to use instead but there is no taxonomy so its incredibly hard to find anything, SO NO ONE USES IT!
Therefore we have in effect a $30,000 piece of software running on a $INSANEPRICE HP server, that provides us jack all functionality. Even as a document management system (which is what it is touted as) it fails.
Sigh.
Coming from the development angle, it’s a total nightmare as well. Have you ever tried to debug a feature with like 15 different nested activation dependencies, and with no visual studio debugger support? It makes you want to shoot yourself in the head.
Out of the box though, it works pretty well, but overall I agree with pretty much everything you are saying (but I don’t tell anyone else this, since I make 130k+ per year stringing this shit together)
Sorry about the random ranting-style comments, I usually come home and drink myself silly after battling with this fucking behemoth of a product day in and day out, and googling “fuck sharepoint” “I hate sharepoint” and finding these kinds of blogs.
oh, by the way
FUCK SHAREPOINT
hehe.
Good thing is: all these rumors about MOSS becoming “next operation system have nothing to do with a reality. No one in a good mental health would push for it. This huge failing all-in-one machine is so inflexible and hard to develop in, it has no future.
Here’s our own story of a failing attempt to use MOSS to develop company’s intranet.
Hi All!
Have you considered using an Open Source software instead of SharePoint? In our experience, having the source helps a lot. And yes, with sharepoint we did run into lots of problems, our developers had similar opinion about it, using the same f word, too.
Try this open source ECMS we released recently. We are keen to receive fedback. Download: Sense/Net 6.0 source and install
Sharepoint usability sucks! There’s a lot of opensource alternatives to sharepoint with better usability and all necessary features.
I just can’t understand why people love that crap!!
All you “ZOMG OPENSOURCE IS TEH BEST PRAWDUCT” peoople need to calm down a bit. I take it none of you have ever contracted/worked for your standard enterprise scale company. You mention “open source” to your average CTO he’ll laugh his ass off. Corporate america is locked in with Microsoft, that isn’t going to change anytime soon. If your aim is to make some money in software, you need to tend to the needs of the sheep.
I couldn’t agree more, I support and implement SharePoint in a large corporate environment and as coder and designer I can unequivocally state the SharePoint is the steamingest pile of fucking shit on the planet. Fuck SharePoint and FUCK Microsoft.
Hell yea sharepoint sux ass, even as a document management system, it can’t read PDF files
so the question is, do you quit your job because your dipshit boss (and boss’ bosses) think sharepoint is great, or do you stick it out and fantasize about disemboweling Bill Gates with an icepick?
Absolutely agree Sharepoint sucks I used work on trim much better edrms solution.
Now I’m on 100k plus selling a shit Sharepoint solution.
Sharepoint sucks so much I just want to show it up some M$ dev team managers arse and watch them crawl up in the corner while I look for as much money as possible, so that I can return to the board and say “Hey; look, this thing actually gave us some money”.. fuck’in eyh.. been working with development for 20 years, never seen such a crappy implemented shit since the release of Basic back’n the days.. damn!!!!
Everybody who defends SharePoint has no frigging idea about programming in my opinion.
When i saw a SharePoint generated html-file (or should i say table file) on the first time i had to laugh really badly.
I just thought, which drunk child is responsible for such ugly code.
I fucking hate sharepoint too, it this the biggest price of crap in the whole world…I have to update files everyday and have to wait for the page to fully load in order to know it has been saved! i mean my god! there is nothing else on the internet that i have to do that with, everything else just saves and you can close the window or open a new link and the information you had typed WOULD be saved….
Fucking Sharepoint drops my productivity down by %30 i swear it….way to go microsoft for making my days go by slower and shittier because of this stupid, fuck nut program
I googled ‘Sharepoint is shit’after wrestling with this thing for the last week. I thought the gui was bad and then I opened it up in sharepoint designer. Oh my god, it was like a trip back into the early 1990s. What nut job decided that a table based layout created from 100s of gif placeholders was the way to make a website? In the 21st century.
I love being a webdesigner and sharepoint has made me sad to go to work.
What a stinking pile of shit.
I agree. Sharepoint is shit, the designer is shit, and I’m so sorry my company wasted good money on this piece of crap.
After stinking Windows, you’d think Microdollars would have all shot each other and quit, but Noooo, they have to invent something THIS bad.
Hamstar, you’re totally correct. Microsoft blows and so does Sharepoint. I’m looking for a new job.
I used to love being a web developer. Now I wanna blow my brains out so I don’t have to work with this this thing.
I am a sysadmin, I have installed it, I’ve used it, I’ve migrated it. I hate it. What stinking peace of crap Document library makes you login 3 fucking times to open 1 shitty document, then again ask for your credentials 3 times for saving it, failing to remember your password even with the catch on. Fuck this shit. The installation is a bitch, default the software is near useless. Then after you’ve modified it into something usefull you find out that after a migration everything is broken beyond repair. That’s why I call it Swearpoint, it brings out the worst in me.
